Dr. Sabahat Asim Wasti

Dr. Sabahat Asim Wasti is a Staff Physician in the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Neurological Institute. He holds 32 years of clinical experience and has been instrumental in developing rehabilitation services across the UAE's public and private sectors. After training in the United Kingdom—earning his MBBS from Khyber Medical College in Pakistan and completing specialist registrar training at Leeds Teaching Hospitals—he worked as a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals for nine years before relocating to the UAE in 2007.

Dr. Wasti specializes in neurorehabilitation, spasticity management, stroke rehabilitation, pain rehabilitation, and early neurological rehabilitation for complex neurological disabilities. He has introduced several innovations to the region, including comprehensive spasticity management protocols, the use of botulinum toxin for spasticity, and insertion of the region's first baclofen pump. He is also recognized for establishing early mobilization and post-critical illness rehabilitation protocols adapted for the local population, and for pioneering multidisciplinary care approaches in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

He holds regional leadership roles with the World Federation for NeuroRehabilitation (WFNR), serving as Regional Vice President for the Gulf Region, Chair of Service Development, and Co-Chair of Ethics. Dr. Wasti is well known for his expertise in cultural and ethical considerations in neurorehabilitation practice, and regularly delivers invited lectures and chairs international conferences.
