Dr. Shahzad Maqbool

Dr. Shahzad Maqbool is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi with over 24 years of clinical experience across neurosurgery, spine surgery, and interventional pain medicine. He trained in Pakistan, completing his MBBS at Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore and postgraduate neurosurgery qualifications including the FCS. His career has taken him across three continents: he worked for approximately 17 years in South Africa at major teaching hospitals (Chris Hani Baragwanath and Kimberley Hospital Complex), held senior roles in Zambia, and since 2010 has led the Neurosurgical and Spinal Unit at a specialized acute-care hospital in the UAE.

Dr. Maqbool specializes in complex brain and spine surgery, minimally invasive spinal procedures, interventional pain treatments, and trauma and neurocritical care. He holds a Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice and has attended numerous regional and international conferences and training workshops across North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. Between 2000 and 2010, he contributed to medical education as an Honorary Lecturer at the University of the Free State and the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.

He is fluent in English and Urdu and brings a wealth of international training and experience to his practice, making him well-suited for patients requiring complex neurosurgical intervention and pain management.
