Dr. Mohamed Baguneid

Dr. Mohamed Baguneid is a Consultant and Chair of the Vascular Surgery Division at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi, with over 30 years of clinical experience in vascular and endovascular surgery. He trained at the University of Manchester, where he earned both his medical degree and an MD through research in tissue engineering, and holds an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School. Throughout his career, he has held significant leadership roles, including Medical Director of a strategic partnership of four NHS hospitals in the North West of England and Deputy Medical Director of Strategy at a major teaching hospital in Manchester.

Dr. Baguneid manages complex vascular conditions including aortic and carotid disease, peripheral vascular disease, diabetic foot disease, venous disease, vascular trauma, and mesenteric artery disease. He performs a wide range of procedures, from open vascular surgery to minimally invasive endovascular interventions, and is experienced in vascular access surgery for dialysis patients and endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy for excessive sweating. His clinical practice is guided by evidence-based medicine, and he has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, including 66 original papers and reviews.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Baguneid is a dedicated educator who has developed master's programmes in surgical practice and vascular surgery, and organises national and international medical courses and conferences. His academic interests centre on wound healing, diabetic foot disease, and soft tissue infections. He is the editor of the Oxford Handbook of Key Clinical Evidence and Oxford Handbook of Surgical Guidelines, and is currently building an integrated vascular service at SSMC that combines clinical excellence with education and research.
