Dr. Prashanth Srihari Bhat

Dr Prashanth Bhat is a UK board-certified Consultant Neonatologist with 17 years of experience in neonatology, including 10 years at consultant level. He trained in paediatrics and neonatal medicine in London and Cambridge, and has worked in leading UK neonatal centres including King's College Hospital, St Thomas's Hospital, Addenbrooke's Hospital, and the Royal Sussex County Hospital. He also gained substantial experience in neonatal transport services in London and Cambridge, managing babies with both medical and surgical problems. He received his medical degree from Karnataka University, India, and completed a postgraduate diploma from Pune University before his UK training.

Dr Bhat specialises in caring for extremely premature infants from 22 weeks' gestation onwards, and has particular expertise in neonatal heart conditions and breathing support. He performs targeted heart ultrasound (echocardiography) to manage babies with pulmonary hypertension, patent ductus arteriosus (a heart valve problem), and heart dysfunction. He is experienced in all forms of neonatal breathing support, from non-invasive options like continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to advanced ventilation techniques. He also manages surgical conditions in newborns such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia, food-pipe abnormalities, and intestinal problems, and is certified in newborn resuscitation and advanced airway management.

Dr Bhat is an experienced teacher and mentor, certified as a Newborn Life Support instructor by the UK Resuscitation Council, and has taught on national training courses. He conducted neonatal respiratory research at King's College London and has published research articles presented at regional, national, and international meetings. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and holds memberships in the British Association of Perinatal Medicine, the Neonatal Society, and the European Society of Cardiology.
