Dr. Balaji Balasubramaniam

Dr. Balaji Balasubramaniam is a surgical oncologist based in Abu Dhabi with 15 years of experience in cancer surgeries. He completed his M.B.B.S and went on to earn an M.S. in General Surgery from Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in Chennai, followed by specialist training including a D.N.B in General Surgery and an M.Ch in Surgical Oncology completed in 2004. He holds fellowship credentials from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS). Since 2010, Dr. Balaji has served as an examiner for the European Board of Surgery's Surgical Oncology division and was awarded an honorary diploma by the European Board of Surgery.

His clinical focus centers on complex surgical oncology cases, with particular expertise in thyroid, gastrointestinal, and breast cancer surgeries. He has developed a special interest in advanced thyroid surgery techniques, including endoscopic approaches and the trans-axillary thyroidectomy method, which avoids visible neck scarring—a procedure performed by very few surgeons in Abu Dhabi.
