Dr. Tiernan James Byrnes

Dr. Tiernan Byrnes is a consultant neurosurgeon and spinal surgeon with fellowship training in neurosurgery and complex spinal surgery across the United Kingdom and Ireland since 2009. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and completed his neurosurgical training in London at leading institutions including King's College Hospital, St George's Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. He holds a research doctorate (MD) from the University of London for his work on advanced neurosurgical imaging and was previously employed as a Clinical Lecturer in Neurosurgery at St. George's Medical School.

Dr. Byrnes specializes in the full spectrum of spinal conditions, from routine disc problems to complex cases. He offers conservative management, spinal injections, radiofrequency pain relief procedures, minimally invasive surgery, keyhole (endoscopic) spine surgery, disc replacement, and complex spinal fusion. He has particular expertise in spinal degeneration, disc herniation, spinal tumours, spinal infections, trauma and fractures, and spinal cord injury. He is pioneering the development of endoscopic spinal surgery in Dubai—techniques that reduce the size of surgical incisions compared to traditional open surgery.

Dr. Byrnes is trained in Level 1 trauma centres and maintains active involvement in continuing professional development across Europe, the United States, and Asia. He uses advanced intraoperative imaging, navigation systems, and neurophysiological monitoring to ensure safe, precise surgery. He consults with patients collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes.
