Dr. Kassem El-Shunnar

Dr. Kassem El-Shunnar is a Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon with over 32 years of experience practising at consultant level in the United Kingdom and the Middle East. British-trained and internationally recognised, he specialises in complex cranial and spinal surgery with a particular focus on minimally invasive and navigation-guided techniques. He practises at Mediclinic City Hospital, Mediclinic Welcare Hospital, and Mediclinic City Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Centre.

Dr. El-Shunnar provides comprehensive brain surgery for tumours (both benign and malignant), brain haemorrhage, and other complex intracranial conditions. He has advanced expertise in endoscopic pituitary and skull base surgery—keyhole techniques that avoid large incisions. His spine practice covers the full range of degenerative disorders, disc disease, traumatic injuries, and compression problems across the neck, mid-back, and lower back. He performs microscopic and minimally invasive spine surgery, as well as peripheral nerve procedures such as carpal tunnel release and ulnar nerve transposition.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr. El-Shunnar is actively involved in medical education. He holds the position of Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) and serves as an MRCS Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of London.
