Dr. Indira Kannan

Dr Indira Kannan is a UK-trained consultant anaesthetist with 30 years of clinical experience, including 17 years at senior consultant level across tertiary referral hospitals. She trained in Chennai, India, then pursued specialist training in Ireland and the UK, completing her postgraduate qualifications at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle—a major centre for neurosurgery, trauma, obstetrics and children's anaesthesia. She was awarded her Certificate of Completion of Training in 2008 and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

Dr Kannan has worked across the NHS (13 years), Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, managing complex cases from newborns to elderly patients undergoing everything from brain surgery and emergency caesareans to bariatric and orthopaedic procedures. She specialises in paediatric anaesthesia (including high-risk children), neonatal anaesthesia, neuro anaesthesia with awake craniotomy, obstetric anaesthesia, and regional anaesthesia techniques. She is also experienced in enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr Kannan leads quality and safety improvements—she implemented the WHO surgical safety checklist across multiple hospitals and improved sedation safety protocols that earned her hospital JCI reaccreditation. She is passionate about teaching; she holds a postgraduate certificate in clinical education and is currently an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at Mohammed Bin Rashid University, Dubai, training the next generation of anaesthetists and doctors.
