Dr. Maher A Abbas

Dr. Maher A. Abbas is an internationally recognized colorectal and gastrointestinal surgeon with 30 years of experience in medicine and surgery. He has performed more than 20,000 operations and procedures throughout his career. He is a professor of surgery and serves as a senior examiner for the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Dr. Abbas specializes in the full range of colorectal conditions, from colon and rectal cancer to inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, and pelvic floor disorders. He is particularly experienced in minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery, as well as advanced endoscopic procedures such as colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy. He manages complex cases including recurrent cancers, rare pelvic tumors, fistulas, and reconstruction after childbirth trauma or previous surgery.

Dr. Abbas was formerly regional chief of colorectal surgery at Southern California Permanente Medical Group and founded the Center for Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery. He was one of the founding physicians of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and held the first chairmanship of its Digestive Disease Institute. He is an associate editor of the journal Diseases of Colon and Rectum and has authored over 150 scientific publications.
