Dr. Aneela Darbar

Dr. Aneela Darbar is a U.S. board-certified neurosurgeon with 17 years of experience treating complex brain and spine conditions. She completed her neurosurgery residency at State University of New York (SUNY) at Syracuse, followed by fellowship training in minimally invasive endoscopic cranial surgery in Sydney, Australia, and a second fellowship in open skull base surgery in St. Louis, USA. Before joining King's College Hospital London (Dubai), she served as an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Saint Louis University Hospital in Missouri.

Dr. Darbar has performed over 2,500 brain and spine surgeries throughout her career. She specializes in minimally invasive brain and spine surgery, complex brain tumor resection, endoscopic surgery, and awake brain tumor surgery—a technique that allows real-time monitoring of speech, movement, and memory during surgery to protect critical brain functions. Her other areas of expertise include skull base surgery, pediatric brain tumours, endoscopic repair of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks, and various spinal procedures including trauma, degenerative disease, and tumour removal.

Dr. Darbar is an active member of major international neurosurgical organizations, serving as a board member for the Federation of International Education for Neurosurgeons (FIENS) and as a committee member for the Neuroendoscopy committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgeons (WFNS). She is also founding Chair of Women in Neurosurgery (WIN) in Pakistan and Vice-Chair of WIN for the Asian Congress of Neurosurgeons. A passionate educator and speaker, she has authored 5 book chapters and numerous peer-reviewed publications, conducted neurosurgical workshops internationally, and delivered over 100 talks on neurosurgery and women empowerment, including a TedX talk on brain mapping during complex tumour resections.
