Dr. Rita Martins

Dr. Rita Martins is a Clinical Dietitian at Mediclinic City Hospital in Dubai with over 13 years of experience in nutrition and dietetics. She holds a Master's degree in Dietetics from the University of the Algarve in Portugal, where she also completed a Bachelor's in Food Engineering. In 2021, she completed specialized training as a Diabetes Educator through Imperial College London Diabetes Centre in Abu Dhabi. Since relocating to Dubai in 2012, she has built extensive expertise in clinical nutrition across multiple medical specialties.

Dr. Martins develops tailored dietary care plans for patients with diabetes (type 1, type 2, and gestational), cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, gastrointestinal conditions (including IBS and celiac disease), cancer-related nutrition needs, and obesity. She is skilled in advanced nutrition support including enteral and parenteral (tube and intravenous) feeding, low-FODMAP diet design, insulin pump management (Medtronic and Omnipod certified), and carbohydrate counting for insulin users. She also works with post-surgical patients and provides geriatric nutrition care across the lifespan from children to older adults.

Her particular passion is obesity treatment and weight maintenance through customized dietary approaches, often coordinating with other specialists including bariatric surgeons and endocrinologists. She is SCOPE certified in Obesity by the World Obesity Federation and contributes to health promotion through articles and awareness campaigns on nutrition and disease prevention.
