Dr Roopali Soni is a British Consultant Neonatologist with 15 years of experience in large neonatal units. She trained in paediatrics across south England and London, followed by specialist training in Yorkshire. After completing her Certificate of Completion of Training, she worked as a Consultant Neonatologist at Bradford and then at University College London Hospital (UCLH), a referral centre for complex newborns including those needing Great Ormond Street Hospital care. In 2018, she moved to Sidra Medicine in Doha, a major children's hospital with ECMO services for the most critically ill infants.
Dr Soni's clinical expertise spans routine care of newborns (both full-term and premature) on neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), counselling of high-risk pregnancies, and follow-up of infants and young children up to age 2. She has a particular focus on family-centred and developmental care—actively implementing these approaches across multiple units and achieving Unicef Baby Friendly accreditation. She is skilled in neonatal functional heart ultrasound (echocardiography) and has led services for infants with feeding difficulties and nutrition support.
Beyond clinical work, Dr Soni is an educator and researcher. She was Associate Program Director for neonatal training at Sidra Medicine, developing curricula and establishing the first neonatal fellowship and echocardiography training programmes. She holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer position at UCLH, teaches neonatal resuscitation (Resuscitation Council UK and American Academy of Pediatrics courses), and has led multiple research projects and trials on topics including late-onset infection in newborns. She has received innovation awards at national UK conferences.
Special interests: infant nutrition and feeding support, late-onset sepsis in newborns, neonatal education and training, family-centred care implementation.
