Dr. John Devine

Dr. John Devine is chair and consultant of the maxillofacial head and neck surgery division at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi. With 32 years of experience, he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (UK) and holds dual fellowships in dental surgery. He trained and worked extensively in the UK, where he served as Clinical Lead for Head and Neck Surgery in Scotland and helped develop one of the busiest surgical units in the country.

Dr. Devine specialises in reconstructing the face, jaws, skull, mouth, throat, and neck—particularly after cancer removal or severe injury. His expertise includes 3D planning of surgery, advanced reconstructive techniques using microvascular surgery (reconnecting tiny blood vessels), and rehabilitation support for cancer patients. He also treats thyroid and parathyroid conditions, salivary gland disorders, and skin cancers of the head and neck region, as well as complex trauma to the face and skull.

He has been instrumental in establishing Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City as a major referral centre for head and neck cancer surgery and reconstruction across the UAE. An active educator, Dr. Devine lectures nationally and internationally, contributes to international research groups, and advocates for multidisciplinary team care and patient-centred approaches.
