Dr. Mitesh V. Badiwala

Dr. Mitesh Badiwala is a Staff Physician in Cardiac Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He brings over 22 years of surgical experience, including more than 15 years focused specifically on heart transplantation. Before relocating to Abu Dhabi, he served as a Staff Cardiovascular Surgeon at Toronto General Hospital and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto, where he also led the Heart Transplantation program and trained the next generation of cardiac surgeons.

Dr. Badiwala specializes in complex heart surgery including heart valve repair and replacement, coronary bypass surgery, treatment of atrial fibrillation, and mechanical circulatory support devices such as ventricular assist devices (LVADs). He is particularly recognized for performing the world's first implantable ventricular assist device implant using a left atrial approach in an adult patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy—a significant advancement in surgical technique. He has published extensively on cardiovascular science and transplantation, presenting his work nationally and internationally.

His training combined rigorous North American cardiac surgery residency and fellowship with advanced research—he holds a PhD in Cardiovascular Science focusing on transplantation and vascular biology.
