Dr. Sandip Mitra

Dr. Sandip Mitra is Head of Ophthalmology at Al Zahra Hospital Dubai, with more than 20 years of eye care experience. He trained in the UK, completing fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and London, and undertook specialist training in corneal and refractive surgery at The Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital, University of Melbourne. His practice has spanned the United Arab Emirates, Australia, and the UK.

Dr. Mitra specializes in laser vision correction (LASIK, ReLEx SMILE), corneal grafts, and cataract and glaucoma surgery. Over his career, he has performed more than 30,000 cataract surgeries, 10,000 refractive procedures, and 10,000 corneal grafts. He is particularly known for expertise in keratoconus management and pioneered the "big bubble technique for lamellar keratoplasty." While based in Australia, he participated in research at the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) on improving refractive surgery outcomes.

Dr. Mitra has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals, presented over 50 papers at international conferences, and holds membership as an International Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmologists.
