Dr. Nihal Yildirim

Dr. Nihal Gonen-Yildirim is a consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon who has trained and worked across Europe and the United Kingdom. She qualified as a general and oncologic surgeon from Erasmus University Hospital in the Netherlands in 2013, then specialised in oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery at Oxford University Hospitals and the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. Before joining Mediclinic Dubai, she was a consultant at the Nottingham Breast Institute in the UK and held positions in Denmark and the Netherlands.

She performs a full range of breast surgery, including cancer diagnosis and treatment, breast conservation using oncoplastic techniques (reshaping breast tissue during cancer removal), immediate breast reconstruction with implants or patient's own tissue, skin-sparing and nipple-sparing mastectomy, and surgery for benign breast conditions. She is experienced in sentinel lymph node biopsy and axillary clearance for staging breast cancer, as well as familial breast cancer surgery for high-risk families.

Dr. Gonen-Yildirim is actively involved in research and quality improvement audits, and regularly attends international conferences to stay current with advances in breast cancer treatment. She emphasises shared decision-making with patients, ensuring they are fully informed about their options before treatment.
