Dr. Medhat Elsabbahy

Dr. Medhat Elsabbahy is a psychiatrist with 36 years of clinical experience and a distinguished career in psychiatric rehabilitation. He founded and headed the Psychiatric Rehabilitation department at BSP, SKMC in Abu Dhabi from 1999 to 2021, and has trained over 50 team members across three psychiatric rehabilitation units established in the UAE. He holds an Adjunct Associate Professor position in Psychiatry at GMU.

Dr. Elsabbahy's expertise centers on helping people recover from serious mental health conditions through structured rehabilitation programs that support return to work, independent living, and community participation. He has been instrumental in establishing psychiatric rehabilitation as a recognized discipline across the Arab region and internationally, initiating the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Division within the Arab Federation of Psychiatrists in 2010.

He is deeply involved in international psychiatric leadership, serving on the International Committee of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association and the Advisory Council of the PRA Academy.
