Prof. Atif Alvi

Prof. Atif Alvi is a UK-trained colorectal and general surgeon with more than 20 years of experience in the NHS. He completed his higher surgical training in Cambridge and London, received his certificate of completion of training in September 2010, and has held a consultant position since 2011. He has worked at leading UK centres including The Royal Marsden Hospital and St. Mark's Hospital London, and previously practised with private hospital groups including Spire Healthcare and HCA.

Dr Alvi specializes in advanced keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery for bowel cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, having performed over 600 laparoscopic colorectal operations with outcomes matching national standards. Approximately 97% of his bowel cancer cases are done via keyhole surgery. He has also completed over 5,000 colonoscopies with a 97% completion rate and is JAG-accredited as a colonoscopy trainer. He offers advanced techniques for piles (haemorrhoids) including radiofrequency ablation, laser treatment, and stapled procedures, as well as transanal microsurgery for large polyps and small cancers.

Dr Alvi follows enhanced recovery pathways to help patients recover quickly after major keyhole procedures. He is well-suited for patients needing complex bowel cancer surgery, inflammatory bowel disease management, or specialized endoscopic procedures, particularly those preferring minimally invasive approaches.
