Dr. Jamal Kassouma

Dr. Jamal Kassouma is a consultant otolaryngologist and Head of ENT at Al Zahra Hospital Dubai, with over 32 years of experience in ear, nose, and throat surgery. He graduated from Aleppo University in 1981 and completed surgical training in Damascus, followed by advanced fellowship training at Manchester Deanery Rotation (1991–1998) and cochlear implant surgery experience in Bradford, UK (until 2001). He holds fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Intercollegiate Board in Otolaryngology.

Dr. Kassouma is recognised across the Middle East for pioneering cochlear implant surgery in Syria, performing the region's first CI procedure in 2002. Over his career, he has completed more than 10,000 complicated ear surgeries, including approximately 2,000 cochlear implants in Syria and Iraq, and around 700 implants since moving to the UAE in 2012. He specialises in microscopic ear procedures—eardrum repair, ossicle reconstruction, and stapes surgery—as well as complex paediatric ENT surgery, sinus endoscopy, and laryngeal reconstruction.

Dr. Kassouma is driven by a mission to restore hearing and reduce stigma around hearing aids and cochlear implants. He has trained over ten surgeons from across the Arab world and remains passionate about advancing ENT care for deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. His work has been recognised with the Middle East Doctor of the Year award (2009 and 2022) and the Distinguished Employee Award from Dubai Health Authority (2017).
