Dr. Mona Tareen

Dr. Mona Tareen is Section Head of the Palliative Care Department at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Cancer Institute. She is a board-trained palliative care physician with 26 years of clinical experience, including 14 years of practice in Chicago before relocating to the UAE. She completed her medical degree at Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, followed by residency in internal medicine and fellowships in geriatric medicine and hospice and palliative care at leading academic centres in Illinois.

Dr. Tareen specializes in managing pain and symptoms for patients with serious illnesses, particularly those with cancer. She provides advance care planning, end-of-life counselling, and supportive care to help patients and families navigate complex medical decisions. Her clinical work encompasses internal medicine, geriatric care, and hospice services. She is currently the only medical cannabis trained physician in the region and is pursuing a PhD in palliative care, with research interests focused on cannabis therapeutics at end of life and cultural approaches to palliative care.
