About Dr. James Zachariah Pulimuttil
Dr. James Zachariah Pulimuttil is a general, laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon with 35 years of surgical experience. He graduated from Andhra Medical College, Vizag in 1984 and earned his Master's in General Surgery from Christian Medical College, Ludhiana in 1992. For much of his career in India, he was a faculty trainer and later Head of General and Laparoscopic Surgery at CARE Hospital, where he established the department. He has been based in Dubai since 2014 and served as Head of General and Laparoscopic Surgery at Zulekha Hospital, also chairing its Drugs and Therapeutic Committee.
Dr. Zachariah specializes in weight-loss surgery (sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and revisions) and performs thousands of keyhole procedures with low complication rates. He is also highly skilled in hernia repair, colorectal and rectal surgery, thyroid surgery, emergency surgery, and trauma care. He recently trained in endoscopic weight-loss techniques and uses minimally invasive approaches including the "hidden scar" reduced-port method. His research has contributed over 140 citations to international bariatric surgical journals.
