Dr. Asmahan Abdalla

Dr. Asmahan Abdalla is a Specialist in Paediatric Endocrinology at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi, bringing over 10 years of experience in managing complex endocrine and metabolic conditions in children. She trained at Juba University in Sudan and completed specialist paediatric training through the Sudan Medical Specialisation Board, followed by fellowship training in Kenya supported by the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes. Her career has been built on managing the full spectrum of childhood endocrine emergencies and rare genetic conditions.

Dr. Abdalla's clinical expertise spans paediatric diabetology (including neonatal and monogenic diabetes), inborn errors of metabolism, lysosomal storage disorders, and metabolic bone diseases. At the Sudan Childhood Diabetes Centre, she established and led a rare disease clinic that diagnosed approximately 700 genetic cases. She has personally managed over 150 patients with osteogenesis imperfecta, more than 70 cases of rare genetic rickets, and conditions including osteopetrosis and childhood Paget's disease. Through charity programmes, she has provided enzyme replacement therapy for Gaucher disease and Hunter disease. She also led the Novo Nordisk "Managing Changing Diabetes in Children" project, overseeing 26 diabetes clinics nationwide, training over 90 paediatricians and 120 diabetes educators, and establishing support forums for children and families.

Dr. Abdalla is fluent in English and Arabic and is well suited to families managing childhood diabetes, rare genetic metabolic disorders, or complex bone disease in children. Her background combines tertiary hospital emergency care with specialist centres and community outreach, making her equipped to handle both acute presentations and long-term rare disease management.
