Prof. Ahmed Hassn

Prof. Ahmed Hassn is a UK-trained consultant surgeon with over 25 years of experience in laparoscopic, stomach, bariatric and general surgery. After graduating from Cairo, Egypt and completing basic surgical training in 1994, he moved to the UK where he finished specialist training in 2001. He undertook further advanced training in Strasbourg, France and Düsseldorf, Germany. He is considered one of the leading world experts in stomach and oesophageal surgery.

Prof. Hassn specialises in complex keyhole (laparoscopic) procedures including hiatus hernia repair, acid reflux treatment, stomach and oesophageal cancer surgery, and weight loss surgery. He has performed over 1,000 operations for acid reflux and hiatus hernia with a reported cure rate of 97–98%, and over 2,200 keyhole gallbladder removals. He has one of the largest personal series of keyhole stomach cancer removals in the UK and has developed innovative techniques for oesophageal cancer surgery that improve safety and recovery. He also pioneered a new weight-loss operation in 2004 and published long-term results in 2016.
