Dr. Waldo Concepcion

Dr. Waldo Concepcion is a Transplantation Surgery Consultant at Al Jalila Children's, now also practising at Mediclinic City Hospital. He brings 33 years of specialist experience in paediatric and adult organ transplantation, with particular expertise in kidney and liver cases. He trained under Dr. Thomas Starzl, a world pioneer in organ transplantation, at the University of Pittsburgh, and completed a distinguished 19-year career at Stanford University School of Medicine where he held the rank of Professor of Surgery.

At Stanford, Dr. Concepcion led the paediatric kidney transplant program to become the largest in the United States, with outcomes that set national benchmarks. He served as Chief of Clinical Transplantation and Chief of Paediatric Kidney Transplantation, building a referral network across multiple states and internationally. Before Stanford, he was Director of the Transplantation Institute at Loma Linda University in Southern California and co-founded the paediatric transplantation programme at Pacific Presbyterian Hospital in San Francisco. His clinical focus spans paediatric and adult kidney and liver transplants, liver tumours in both age groups, and dialysis access surgery for children.

Dr. Concepcion is recognised for clinical excellence and innovation. He received the Physician of the Year award from the American Liver Foundation in 2017 and was named Distinguished Physician by Stanford Children's Lucile Packard Hospital. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
