Dr. Fatma Alshamsi

Dr. Fatma Alshamsi is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Burjeel Barari Day Surgery Center in Al Ain with over 10 years of clinical experience. She is recognized as the first Emirati physician to specialize in inflammatory bowel disease and advanced interventional endoscopy, and the first female Emirati physician to specialize in advanced ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography), cholangioscopy, and endoscopic ultrasound. Her training took place at leading Canadian institutions: the University of Ottawa, where she completed her medical degree and advanced fellowship in interventional endoscopy, and McGill University, where she further developed her expertise in complex endoscopic procedures.

Dr. Alshamsi's clinical practice focuses on inflammatory bowel disease (including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), pancreaticobiliary disease, and advanced interventional endoscopy. She performs complex procedures including cancer staging, tissue biopsies and needle aspiration, internal drainage, nerve blocks, coiling, endoscopic ultrasound-guided measurements, and fiducial placement for gastrointestinal cancers. She is fluent in both English and Arabic.
