Dr. Basem A Khalil

Dr. Basem Al Khalil is a UK-trained consultant paediatrician and neonatal surgeon based at King's College Hospital London (Dubai). He holds a Master's degree in Public Health from the University of Liverpool and a PhD in Public Health from the University of Gloucestershire, alongside a Master's in Finance from the University of London. Early in his career, he was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons and served as Head of Paediatric Surgery at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, where he led one of the UK's internationally recognised short bowel syndrome services.

Dr. Al Khalil specialises in paediatric colorectal surgery, neonatal general surgery, and the management of short bowel syndrome—a rare condition affecting the small intestine's ability to absorb nutrients. He also treats paediatric conditions including oesophageal disorders, hernias, and performs neonatal circumcision. His expertise in short bowel syndrome has made him a destination for families seeking specialist care from around the world. During his time in Manchester, he was appointed Regional Specialty Professional Advisor for Paediatric Surgery to the Royal College of Surgeons.

After his leadership roles in the UK, Dr. Al Khalil joined Sidra Medicine in Qatar as part of the founding faculty and served as Director of Neonatal Surgery. He subsequently moved to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool before joining King's College Hospital. His practice combines clinical expertise with a strong focus on teaching, research in paediatric and neonatal surgery, and healthcare management.
