Dr. Tibor G. Kovacs is a Staff Physician in Breast Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Integrated Surgical Institute, bringing 37 years of clinical experience. He trained at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj, Romania, completed surgical oncology fellowship at the National Institute of Oncology in Budapest, Hungary, and advanced fellowships in oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery in the United Kingdom at South Manchester and Royal Liverpool hospitals. He has held senior leadership roles across Europe and Asia, including Chief of Breast Surgery at Jiahui International Hospital in Shanghai and Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at Guy's Hospital in London.
Dr. Kovacs specializes in complex breast cancer surgery combined with reconstruction. His expertise includes oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery (removing tumors while preserving breast shape), immediate breast reconstruction after mastectomy, pre-pectoral implant placement, skin-sparing and nipple-sparing mastectomy techniques, and sentinel lymph node biopsy to assess cancer spread. He pioneered the introduction of minimally invasive techniques like radio-guided localization and pre-pectoral reconstruction, which have improved patient outcomes and satisfaction.
