Prof. Ahmed Mostafa

Professor Ahmed Mostafa is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at Saudi German Hospital in Dubai, and a Professor of Thoracic Surgery at Ain Shams University in Cairo. With over 25 years of experience, he is recognised across the Middle East for his expertise in advanced airway and chest surgery. He trained in France at leading institutions including Georges Pompidou, Tenon, and Henri Mondor Hospitals, then specialised further in Japan at Kyoto University under Professor Hiroshi Date, where he mastered living-donor lung transplantation and complex lung cancer surgery. He also serves as main consultant for thoracic surgery at Professor Magdy Yacoub's Aswan Heart Centre.

As former Head of the Lung Transplant Unit at Ain Shams University, Professor Mostafa directed the development of Egypt's first Living-Donor Lung Transplant Program in collaboration with Kyoto University—a landmark achievement for transplantation across Africa. He has performed over 700 major tracheal and airway reconstructive surgeries, representing the largest single-surgeon series in the Arab world. His work spans airway reconstruction (including tracheal resection and laryngotracheal reconstruction), minimally invasive keyhole chest surgery (VATS), lung cancer resection, chest-wall deformity repair, and ECMO-supported complex procedures.

Professor Mostafa is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (London) and member of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He is committed to training the next generation of surgeons and continues to balance clinical practice in Dubai with academic leadership in Egypt, bridging international expertise to advance thoracic surgery in the region.
