Dr. Laszlo Göbölös

Dr. Laszlo Göbölös is an Associate Staff Physician at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute, where he combines clinical practice with education and research. He holds an MD and PhD, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pécs in Hungary, and completed specialist training in cardiac surgery across Hungary and Germany. He was instrumental in establishing Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's heart transplant program—the first in the United Arab Emirates—and remains active in the robotic cardiosurgical program.

Dr. Göbölös treats coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, thoracic aortic disease, and related cardiac conditions. He has a particular focus on robotic-assisted cardiac surgery and has published internationally on its outcomes, challenges and technical innovations. During his training in Regensburg, he was involved in developing advanced therapies including transport ECMO (heart-lung support for transport), artificial lung technology (PECLA), and minimal invasive extracorporeal circulation (MECC). Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, he worked as a clinical fellow and staff surgeon at Southampton University Hospital Trust in the UK, where he also served as a certified educational supervisor and conducted audits to improve NHS services and patient safety.

He holds academic appointments as Clinical Associate Professor at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (Case Western Reserve University) and Assistant Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Pécs. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, European Society of Cardiology, American College of Cardiology, and Gulf Heart Association, and serves on editorial boards for cardiovascular journals.
