Dr. Rajarshi Mitra

Dr. Rajarshi Mitra is a consultant general and laparoscopic surgeon practising at NMC Healthcare in Abu Dhabi. With over 21 years of experience, including 19 years of independent practice, he has built a reputation for expertise in advanced surgical procedures, particularly minimally invasive techniques. He trained at leading institutions including NSCB Medical College and GMC Bhopal in India, followed by specialist training in laparoscopic surgery at Fortis Hospital and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA.

Dr. Mitra specializes in laparoscopic and open surgery of the digestive organs and solid abdominal organs. He has particular expertise in treating conditions around the anus and rectum—such as fistulas, fissures, and piles (hemorrhoids)—and is trained in advanced techniques including transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization and stapler hemorrhoidectomy. He performs a wide range of abdominal procedures laparoscopically, including appendicectomy, with consistently good patient outcomes. His training also extends to colorectal and bariatric (weight-loss) surgery through a fellowship in Taiwan.

Before coming to Abu Dhabi, Dr. Mitra worked in the Caribbean and Pacific region, including as a staff specialist surgeon at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in British Guyana and at Suva Private Hospital in Fiji, where he also mentored trainee surgeons.
