Dr. Piergiorgio Neri

Dr. Piergiorgio Neri is a Staff Physician in the Ophthalmology Department at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Integrated Surgical Institute. He brings 26 years of specialized experience in medical retina and uveitis (inflammation inside the eye). Before joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, he was Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Ocular Immunology Service at the Polytechnic University of Marche-Ancona in Italy, where he led the retinal and inflammatory eye disease program since 2007.

Dr. Neri specializes in treating complex retinal conditions including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, central serous chorioretinopathy, and various forms of uveitis and retinal inflammation. He has particular expertise in novel drug treatments for ocular inflammations and pioneered innovative approaches using systemic treatments, including biologic agents, for retinal inflammatory conditions. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts and contributed to seven books on retina and uveitis.

He is recognized internationally as an expert in ocular immunology, serving as President of the Immunology/Microbiology Section of the European Association for Vision and Eye Research (EVER) and sitting on advisory panels for the European Medicines Agency and Italian pharmaceutical regulators.
