Dr. Michael Rodgers

Dr. Michael Rodgers is a Staff Physician in the Critical Care Department at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Integrated Hospital Care Institute. He completed his medical degree at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, in 1991, followed by anesthesiology residency and specialized training in surgical intensive care in the Netherlands. Over his 32 years in medicine, he has developed deep expertise in managing the most critically ill patients, particularly those requiring organ transplantation, mechanical heart support, and neurosurgical care.

In his 10 years as a Consultant Intensivist in Groningen, Netherlands, Dr. Rodgers managed full organ transplant programs, patients on advanced cardiac devices, and complex neurosurgical cases. He is skilled in specialized diagnostic techniques including heart ultrasound (both transthoracic and transesophageal approaches), bedside lung and vascular ultrasound, and cranial ultrasound. He also directs ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) management—a life-support technology for patients with severe heart or lung failure.

Dr. Rodgers is an active educator and has taught national courses in ultrasound, ECMO, and airway management, including tracheotomy techniques. He previously chaired the Intensive Care Unit Protocol Committee at University Hospital Groningen and served on committees overseeing specialized care quality. He is a Fundamental Critical Care Support instructor and continues to develop critical care standards in his practice.
