Dr. Andrew Malem

Dr Andrew Malem is a Staff Physician in the Ophthalmology Department at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. He trained in medicine at the University of Cambridge, where he conducted early research into eye movement control. He completed his core ophthalmology training in Wessex, UK, where he also supervised resident doctors. Unusually, Dr Malem has completed two separate specialist fellowships in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus — one at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and a second at the renowned Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Canada.

Dr Malem has particular expertise in children's eye diseases, eye misalignment and movement disorders, congenital eye abnormalities, and paediatric cataracts. During his training in Toronto, he conducted further research in neuro-ophthalmic conditions and was awarded a research grant from the Department of Visual Sciences. He holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and was one of the youngest doctors elected to the Panel of Examiners for the Royal College, where he now assesses candidates for specialist eye qualification exams.

Dr Malem is an active researcher and educator. He has published multiple articles in leading medical journals, presented work at national and international conferences, and continues to collaborate with colleagues at SickKids on ongoing studies.
