Dr. Nazimul Hussain

Dr. Nazimul Hussain is a senior vitreoretinal surgeon with over 25 years of clinical, surgical and academic experience in complex retinal and macular diseases. He currently heads the Department of Ophthalmology at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital, UAE, leading a multidisciplinary team that treats thousands of patients monthly. He trained at leading institutions in India, including L.V. Prasad Eye Institute where he received the Best Ophthalmology Fellow Award, and has held senior academic positions at Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital and Al Zahra Hospital before joining Mediclinic.

Dr. Hussain has performed over 10,000 vitreoretinal surgeries, including retinal detachment repair, macular hole surgery, and diabetic retinopathy management using advanced techniques. His expertise spans macular diseases, diabetic eye disease, retinal blood vessel disorders, and complex retinal procedures. He is an accomplished researcher and educator, having authored over 55 peer-reviewed publications, 22 non-peer-reviewed articles, and 14 textbook chapters, including co-authoring the Textbook of Vitreoretinal Surgery (2009). He has been principal or co-investigator in major clinical trials including studies on age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular swelling.

Dr. Hussain is known for his methodical, calm approach and combines advanced surgical skill with patient-centered care. He remains active in training vitreoretinal fellows and serves as a reviewer for international ophthalmology journals. His work appears in leading publications including Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science and the American Journal of Ophthalmology. He has delivered over 150 invited lectures at national and international conferences.
