Dr. Somansu Basu

Dr. Somansu Basu is a consultant pathologist and medical microbiologist with over 22 years of clinical and laboratory experience. He completed his MBBS from Calcutta Medical College in 1997 and his MD in pathology from the University of Delhi in 2002. He trained at the prestigious Institut Pasteur in Paris, where he specialized in medical mycology and molecular biology, and holds a Diploma in Medical Mycology from that institution.

Dr. Basu's clinical focus spans medical microbiology, fungal infections, infection control, hospital epidemiology, and antibiotic stewardship. He has extensive hands-on experience with advanced diagnostic technologies including real-time PCR-based testing for serious infections such as COVID-19, tuberculosis, hepatitis B and C, HIV, and fungal diseases like aspergillosis, candidiasis, and cryptococcosis. He is also skilled in newer techniques such as genome sequencing, molecular beacon analysis, and MALDI TOF mass spectrometry for rapid organism identification.

Dr. Basu is particularly focused on quality accreditation and laboratory standards, actively contributing to his hospital's achievement of JCIA (Joint Commission International Accreditation) and ISO 15189 (medical laboratory standards) certifications. He is well-suited for patients needing specialized microbiology testing, infection prevention advice, or diagnosis of unusual or hard-to-identify infections.
