Dr. Wieslaw Koterla

Dr. Wieslaw Koterla is a consultant in internal medicine and gastroenterology with four decades of clinical experience. He graduated from the Silesian Academy of Medicine in Poland in 1981 and completed specialist training in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and gastrointestinal endoscopy at Silesian Medical University between 1981 and 1991. He has also earned an executive master's degree in business administration from Illinois University (2002) and studied healthcare administration at the University of Atlanta (2014). For many years he worked as an academic lecturer, teaching internal medicine, gastroenterology, endoscopy, and ultrasound procedures.

Dr. Koterla relocated to the United Arab Emirates in 2010, where he initially worked at a public hospital in Abu Dhabi managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International. He was instrumental in establishing gastroenterology services there. In 2016, he transitioned to the private healthcare sector, working at Al Sharq Hospital in Fujairah before joining Burjeel Royal Hospital Al Ain in 2018. He now practices at Burjeel in Abu Dhabi.

He manages a broad range of digestive and internal medicine conditions, from common issues like acid reflux and irritable bowel syndrome to complex liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and gastrointestinal cancers. He performs both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures and is experienced in managing gastrointestinal bleeding, screening for colorectal cancer, and caring for patients before and after weight-loss surgery.
