Prof. Anil Dhawan

Prof Anil Dhawan is a UK-trained Professor of Paediatric Hepatology and Director of the King's Cell Therapy Unit at King's College Hospital, London. He leads the Paediatric Liver, Gastroenterology, Nutrition, and Mowat Labs departments and holds board-level positions with the European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, the International Liver Transplantation Society, and the Cell Transplantation Society. He is a past president of the Cell Transplant and Regenerative Medicine Society.

Prof Dhawan is an internationally recognised expert in liver disease in children. His lab achieved historic firsts: the first successful human liver cell transplants for inherited metabolic liver disorders in the UK, and the first in the world to use human liver cells in alginate beads to treat acute liver failure in children. He has published over 400 research papers, edited four books on paediatric hepatology and liver cell transplantation, and maintains an H-index of 79 with over 24,000 citations. His research is funded by major sources including the Department of Health, NIHR, NIH, and the Medical Research Council.
