Dr. Balaji Nagammapudur Senniappan

Dr Balaji Nagammapudur Senniappan is a consultant general, upper gastrointestinal (stomach and oesophageal), and bariatric surgeon with 32 years of clinical experience. He completed his medical degree and early surgical training in India, then pursued higher surgical training in the UK, culminating in a UK Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). He completed a specialist fellowship in foregut surgery (oesophagus and stomach) at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Before moving to the UAE in 2023, he spent 10 years as a consultant at Royal Stoke University Hospital, one of the UK's busiest acute care centres.

Dr Balaji specialises in weight-loss surgery (sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and SADI-S procedures) and complex stomach and oesophageal conditions, including reflux disease, cancer cases, and functional disorders. He performs both primary operations and revision surgeries (redoing or correcting previous procedures). His practice encompasses advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques, emergency and trauma surgery, hernia repair, and gallbladder surgery. He has expertise in oesophageal function testing (manometry and pH studies) to diagnose swallowing and reflux disorders.

Dr Balaji is an experienced educator and mentor to surgical trainees and fellows. He has held leadership roles in national surgical organisations in both the UK and India focused on upper GI and bariatric surgery. He is currently pursuing an MBA in healthcare from the University of Warwick.
