Dr. Anwar Baban

Dr. Anwar Baban is a consultant in clinical genetics and genomics with over 20 years of experience. She currently leads the Department of Clinical Molecular Genetics and Precision Medicine at Mediclinic Middle East and founded the Cardio-Genetic Center. Before joining Mediclinic, she was a fully recognized consultant at Bambino Gesù Children Hospital and Research Institute in Rome, Italy, a leading pediatric institution.

Dr. Baban evaluates and manages families with genetic, inherited, metabolic, and rare diseases. Her expertise spans cardiogenetics (cardiomyopathies, congenital heart disease, inherited arrhythmias, aortopathies), pediatric genetics, syndromology, neurogenetics, nephrogenetics, and cancer genetics. She interprets advanced genetic tests including microarray analysis, next-generation sequencing (panels and whole exome sequencing), and triplet repeat expansions. She also advises on pharmacogenomics—how genes affect medication response.

Dr. Baban is active in multicentric research and serves as a board member of the European Reference Network for Rare Diseases and co-chair of the Genetics Working Group of the Association of European Pediatric Cardiology. She is a published researcher with an h-index of 26 and over 104 publications. She is dedicated to involving families in shared decision-making for complex genetic diagnoses.
