Dr. Javed Raza

Dr. Javed Raza is a Staff Physician in the General Surgery Department at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Digestive Disease Institute. He brings 32 years of surgical experience, including 6 years as a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal and Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgeon at the Royal Derby Hospital in the UK, where he served as Clinical Lead for Foregut Surgery and the Regional Bariatric Surgery Unit from 2010 onwards.

Dr. Raza specializes in bariatric surgery (weight-loss operations), cancer surgery of the foregut (food pipe and stomach), and advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. He has performed over 1,000 bariatric procedures, including complex revisional cases. His work has been featured on national and regional television in the UK, including a Channel 4 documentary on gastric bypass surgery. He serves as a technical advisor to the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) in the UK and was instrumental in developing national guidelines for bariatric surgery provision.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Raza has led the development of three bariatric surgery units in the UK and helped establish laparoscopic surgery programs in Egypt and Pakistan. He is Vice Chairman of the Midland Doctors Association, a charitable organization managing an 80-bed healthcare facility in Azad Kashmir following earthquake relief work in 2005. He regularly presents his outcomes and teaches advanced surgical techniques at international conferences.
