Dr. Ashraf Zeid

Dr. Ashraf Zeid is an ophthalmic surgeon at Medcare Hospital in Sharjah with nearly two decades of surgical and clinical experience across the Middle East and North Africa. He trained at Cairo University and Ain Shams University in Egypt, and holds advanced certifications in laser eye surgery and glaucoma techniques from institutions in Switzerland and the UK. His career has included leadership roles as Executive Medical Director at Alferdaws Eye Hospital in Cairo, where he mentored surgeons and developed training programmes, and specialist positions at major eye centres in Dubai and Sharjah.

Dr. Zeid specialises in anterior segment surgeries—the front part of the eye—with particular expertise in cataract removal using the latest ultrasound techniques, corneal reshaping for conditions like keratoconus, and refractive procedures (LASIK, PRK, and newer laser methods). He also treats medical retina conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration using advanced imaging and injectable treatments. He has experience with children's eye problems including congenital cataracts, lazy eye, and eye misalignment, as well as dry eye disease and nerve-related vision loss.

Beyond clinical work, Dr. Zeid is passionate about training the next generation of eye surgeons. He leads surgical workshops for the Emirates Ophthalmology Society and regularly teaches at international conferences. He also volunteers internationally, performing cataract surgeries in underserved communities across Africa through the Al Basar International Foundation.
