Prof. Jon Conroy is an established orthopaedic surgeon from the UK with over 25 years of experience treating complex hip and knee conditions. He was recruited to HealthPoint Hospital Abu Dhabi in 2022 to introduce Mako robotic-assisted surgery to the region. His experience with robotic surgery spans more than 10 years, and he was the first surgeon north of London in England to adopt the Mako system, personally performing around 1,000 robotic procedures—among the top three highest numbers in the UK. He has performed the first Mako robotic uni-compartmental knee replacement and total hip replacement in the Middle East, and the first such total knee replacement in the UAE.
Prof. Conroy has personally completed over 4,000 joint replacements, hundreds of complex revision procedures, and more than 1,000 hip arthroscopy (keyhole) procedures. His subspecialty interests include sports-related hip and knee problems such as hip impingement and labral tears, minimally invasive day-case joint replacement, and revision surgery. Since 2017, he has trained many senior surgeons across the Middle East, Asia and Europe as a Mako instructor and continues to be actively involved in teaching robotics. He also takes international referrals and provides second opinions.
Prof. Conroy holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering and has been involved in designing modern hip and knee replacements and hip arthroscopy instruments. He is passionate about exploring non-operative options first and takes a careful, evidence-based approach to adopting new technologies. His extensive academic work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and he has lectured at prominent orthopaedic conferences worldwide.
Special interests: femoroacetabular impingement and labral tears, sports injuries of the hip and knee, minimally invasive day-case joint replacement, design of joint replacement implants and instruments.
