Dr. Oussama Chaar

Dr. Oussama Chaar is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital in Abu Dhabi with 34 years of clinical experience. He earned his MD from the University of Liège, Belgium in 1984, followed by specialized training in orthopaedics with a focus on joint replacement. He also holds a diploma in Biomechanics from the Université Libre de Bruxelles. After 24 years building a leading joint replacement program in Belgium—performing over 500 hip and knee surgeries annually—he relocated to the UAE in 2014, where he worked at major government and private hospitals and served as head of orthopaedics before joining Mediclinic in 2025.

Dr. Chaar has successfully performed more than 20,000 hip and knee replacement surgeries. His expertise spans complex primary joint replacement, revision and re-revision surgery, hip preservation techniques, limb lengthening and reconstruction, bone tumour surgery with limb salvage, complex pelvic fracture fixation, and treatment of periprosthetic infections and fractures. He is skilled in minimally invasive approaches, robotic-assisted surgery, and navigation technology. Since 2017, he has employed his own fast-track recovery protocol for knee and hip replacement, designed to minimize post-operative pain and accelerate recovery without the need for extensive physiotherapy.

Dr. Chaar is a recognized innovator—he developed his own surgical technique for managing congenital hip dislocation without femoral shortening, and is a co-inventor of a knee prosthesis design. He has authored numerous publications and conducted research across European institutes. He is well-suited for patients requiring complex joint surgery, revision procedures, or specialized reconstructive orthopaedic care.
