Dr. Waleed Al-Khyatt

Dr. Waleed Al-Khyatt is a Consultant Bariatric Surgeon at Danat Al Emarat Hospital in Abu Dhabi, with 14 years of specialist experience in laparoscopic (keyhole) upper digestive, weight-loss, and general surgery. He recently joined from the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust in the UK, where he was Lead Consultant and Director of the East Midlands Bariatric and Metabolic Institute. Dr. Al-Khyatt qualified with honours from the University of Mosul's College of Medicine and completed his higher surgical training in the East Midlands, earning his Fellowship (FRCS) from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2015 and his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2017. He also completed a specialist post-CCT fellowship in advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery at St Richards International Centre of Excellence in Chichester.

Dr. Al-Khyatt specialises in keyhole weight-loss surgery for people with morbid obesity, surgery for oesophageal and stomach cancers, treatment of severe reflux disease, abdominal wall hernias, and complex gallstone disease. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, with research interests in oesophageal cancer development, improving outcomes in weight-loss and metabolic surgery, and quality improvement in emergency surgery. He holds an Honorary Consultant Assistant Professor position in Surgery at the University of Nottingham Medical School, and his research has been recognised with a first prize medal from the Royal College of Physicians and Midlands Gastroenterology Society.
