Dr. Gireesh Gopinathan

Dr. Gireesh Gopinathan is a Specialist Gastroenterologist practicing at Aster Hospitals in Dubai. He trained extensively in India, completing his medical degree at Kozhikode Medical College in 2007, followed by specialized training in pediatrics and then a postgraduate diploma in medical gastroenterology from Madras Medical College in 2020. Most recently, he served as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Aster MIMS Calicut, a center of excellence in gastrointestinal sciences and multiorgan transplantation, from January 2021 to January 2024.

Dr. Gopinathan has developed particular expertise in advanced endoscopic procedures, including upper and lower bowel scoping, pancreaticobiliary interventions, endoscopic ultrasonography (detailed ultrasound imaging via scope), third space endoscopy, double balloon enteroscopy (allowing visualization of the small bowel), and capsule endoscopy (swallowed camera). He performs a wide range of therapeutic procedures including stricture dilatation, balloon dilation for swallowing disorders, polypectomy (polyp removal), feeding tube placement, and therapeutic ERCP (endoscopic treatment of bile duct and pancreatic conditions).

He has published research on portal cavernoma cholangiopathy, occult hepatitis B infection, and infection patterns in inflammatory bowel disease patients. Dr. Gopinathan is a member of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, the Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India, and the Indian Medical Association, and he is fluent in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, and English.
