Dr. Mohammed Mustafa El Mahy

Dr. Mohammed Mustafa El Mahy is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology with 44 years of clinical experience. He trained at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, completed advanced microsurgery training in Italy, and undertook a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at Duke University Medical Center in the USA. He currently serves as Chief of the Hand and Microsurgery Unit and Head of the Hand and Foot Unit at Ain Shams University, a position he has held since 2012.

Dr. El Mahy's practice encompasses the full spectrum of hand surgery, including congenital deformities, traumatic injuries, inflammatory conditions, and complex microsurgical reconstruction. He is recognized as a pioneer in the management of brachial plexus palsy (nerve injuries affecting the shoulder and arm, both in newborns and in late reconstruction). He has particular expertise in rheumatoid hand conditions, basal joint arthritis (wear-and-tear at the base of the thumb), distal radio-ulnar joint disorders, and microsurgical bone defect management.

Throughout his career, Dr. El Mahy has held senior surgical positions at leading hospitals across Egypt and the Middle East, combining academic leadership with hands-on clinical practice. His approach integrates both conventional surgical techniques and advanced microsurgical methods to restore hand and wrist function.
