Dr. Paul Coulter

Dr. Paul Coulter is a physician dual-trained in General Practice (family medicine) and Specialist Palliative Care, with 23 years of clinical experience across primary, secondary, and out-of-hours settings in the UK. He holds Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and is credentialed in both family medicine (MRCGP with merit) and palliative medicine (MRCP, CCT). His training includes medical school at the University of Dundee (2002), followed by structured training in general practice and later specialist palliative care with completion of his CCT in December 2017.

Dr. Coulter specializes in the holistic assessment and management of patients with life-limiting illnesses, addressing physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs. His approach views palliative care as applicable early in serious illness, alongside life-prolonging treatments, and emphasizes affirming life while viewing death as a normal process. He has a particular interest in extending palliative care principles beyond cancer to other chronic life-limiting conditions, and integrating this with family medicine expertise to provide comprehensive patient-centered care. He also has training and interest in managing severe anxiety and depression in his patients.

Dr. Coulter is an Honorary Professor at Birmingham City University focused on improving workplace culture and healthcare leadership. He serves as Medical Director of Hillcroft House Research Hub and is a CQC Specialist Advisor, contributing to strategic healthcare decision-making and team collaboration. He is accredited as a medical expert witness in palliative care and family medicine.
