Dr. Amer AlKhatib

Dr. Amer AlKhatib is a Staff Physician in the Gastroenterology Department at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Digestive Disease Institute. He earned his medical degree from the University of Jordan and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas in Houston. He trained in gastroenterology at the University of Utah and was the first physician to complete an Advanced Endoscopy fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. With 23 years of experience, he brings extensive expertise in both diagnostic and interventional gastroenterology.

Dr. AlKhatib treats a wide range of digestive disorders, with particular expertise in pancreatic and biliary diseases, liver disease, and gastrointestinal cancers including colorectal cancer. He performs complex endoscopic procedures including diagnostic and therapeutic upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, double and single balloon enteroscopy, endoscopic mucosal resection, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). He has also worked with liver transplant programs and is experienced in advanced techniques such as EUS-guided drainage and stent placement.

Throughout his career, Dr. AlKhatib has been dedicated to teaching medical students, residents, and fellows for over a decade, and has held academic appointments at Washington State University and Oklahoma State University. He has published more than 40 papers in prestigious international journals including the American Journal of Medicine.
