Dr. Farindokht Foroodi

Dr. Farindokht Foroodi is a Consultant Physician in Internal Medicine at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi. Canadian-trained with over 20 years of clinical experience, she was among the first in Canada to complete a Hospital Medicine Fellowship at McMaster University and became the first Canadian hospitalist recognized as a Fellow in Hospital Medicine by the U.S. Society of Hospital Medicine. In the early 2000s, she played a pioneering role in establishing hospitalist medicine—a specialized model where doctors focus on caring for patients during hospital stays—across Canadian hospitals.

Dr. Foroodi's practice spans acute medical care, perioperative medicine (care around surgery), palliative care (comfort-focused care for serious illness), and oncology. She has led major quality improvement initiatives, including antimicrobial stewardship programs and clinical pathways that shape how hospitals deliver care. Her work has also influenced workforce planning and training standards.

Since joining SSMC in 2020, she has served as Quality Chair for the Department of Medicine and chairs the Palliative Care Subcommittee. She also holds academic appointments at Gulf Medical University and the University of British Columbia, teaching in medical residency programmes.
