Dr. Wisam Dhafer Rashid Selbi

Dr. Wisam Selbi is a consultant neurosurgeon with over 15 years of experience, now practising at NMC Healthcare in Abu Dhabi. He trained in neurosurgery across the South West of England, including Bristol and Plymouth, and completed an advanced fellowship in complex spine surgery at Exeter in the UK. Before neurosurgical training, he completed a PhD at Cardiff University and basic surgical training in Nottingham. Throughout his career, he has held academic leadership roles including senior clinical lecturer and clinical co-lead for Anatomy at Exeter University medical school, and served as clinical governance lead for spinal surgery at the Royal Devon & Exeter hospital.

Dr. Selbi specialises in minimally invasive (keyhole) approaches to the spine across all three regions—cervical (neck), thoracic (mid-back), and lumbar (lower back). For neck problems, he offers motion-preserving procedures such as disc replacement and laminoplasty, as well as conventional fusion when needed. He uses computer-navigated surgery to improve precision and reduce radiation exposure. Beyond the spine, he manages brain tumours (both benign and malignant), head injuries, facial pain conditions like trigeminal neuralgia, and hydrocephalus using advanced neuro-navigation technologies.

Dr. Selbi is fluent in Arabic and English. He is committed to medical education and has conducted teaching missions to Rwanda, sharing complex neurosurgical skills with local surgeons.
